Sharpening a Beauty Shear on the Hira-To® Scissors Sharpening System

Step 1: We will start the edging process with a 30 micron disc. While holding the fixture with your right hand, set the Hira-To® speed to 3 (30%) and turn the machine on so the disc is spinning clockwise.

Step 2: Lay the blade on the disc and gently rock the blade back and forth in the fixture while watching for a burr to come up. Be careful not to rock too much onto the tip or into the throat of the blade. Do your best to follow the gentle curve of the cutting edge.

Matching Your Angle on the Hira-To® Scissor Sharpening System

Step 1: After clamping the blade in the head of the fixture and with the fixture set at 45º, place a 30 micron disc on the head of the machine. While holding the fixture in the full stop position set the Hira-To® speed to 1 and turn the machine on so the disc is spinning clockwise. Then lay your blade on the 30 micron disc.

Step 2: After touching the blade to the disc, rotate the head of the fixture around to see where the blade has been scratched by the pad.

Step 1: Hold the fixture with your right hand.

Step 2: With your left hand, make an “okay” sign. With this same hand, pick up the blade with your thumb and first/ pointer finger.

Step 3: Prop the head of the fixture up against your stomach.

Applying Diamond Paste to your New Felt Polishing Pad

Step 1: Place your felt disc on the head of the Hira-To®. Apply six lines of paste to the disc in a pie shaped pattern. Between the pie wedges apply 2 lines of paste.

Step 2: Once the paste is applied, rub it into the felt pad with your finger.
